Miao and Derbyshire elected to the American Academy of Microbiology
Two faculty in the Duke University School of Medicine have been elected as fellows of the American Academy of Microbiology. Ed Miao, MD, PhD, Duke Health Distinguished Professor of Integrative Immunobiology, and Emily Derbyshire, PhD, Eads Family Professor of Chemistry, who has a secondary appointment in the Department of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology, are among 63 new fellows elected for 2026.
Rawls named as Fellow of the American Gastroenterological Association
John F. Rawls, PhD, James B. Duke Distinguished Professor of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology, has been named a Fellow of the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA), the nation’s oldest and most prestigious medical society dedicated to disorders of the gastrointestinal tract.
Where climate meets health: Duke researchers chart a path forward at ‘Big Idea’ symposium
Duke University School of Medicine hosted its first Climate and Health “Big Idea” Symposium on January 22, bringing together faculty and trainees from across campus to share ideas aimed at addressing the health impacts of climate change. Hosted by the Climate and Health Research Initiative (CHeRI), the event highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and the need to address climate‑related risks facing vulnerable populations.
