Research Interest: Host-microbe interactions
I was born in Texas, but I have lived in NC since 2001. I completed undergraduate studies at a rival university a few miles away in 2009, where I got a degree from the School of Public Health with a concentration in Environmental Engineering.
After graduating, I went to work in a Physiology and Genetics lab using genetically engineered mouse models to study how peptide hormone signaling through GPCRs influences cardiovascular pathophysiology. This experience gave me a strong foundation in microscopy, molecular biology and genetics, and helped cement my interest in biological sciences.
My current research interests in the Rawls Lab are broadly in host-microbe interactions, with a particular focus on understanding how gut microbiota, gastrointestinal physiology and nutrition collectively modulate host immunity.
Outside of lab, I enjoy endurance running, cooking (and eating), brewing beer, target shooting, SCUBA and traveling.
