UPGG Graduate Student (2011)
2339A CIEMAS Building
Box 3382 DUMC
Durham, N.C. 27710
I grew up in Holt, Michigan just down the road from Michigan State University where I received a B.S. in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology as well as a B.S. in Genomics & Molecular Genetics. I then spent one year in the pharmaceutical industry, in the bioprocess development group at Pfizer, before coming to Duke and joining UPGG in the fall of 2011.
I have since joined Beth Sullivan’s lab where I am looking at cell-cycle dependent dynamics of the centromere protein A (CENP-A) domain. I am utilizing optical mapping on stretched chromatin fibers prepared from synchronized cells to observe CENP-A domains at several points in the cell cycle via IF-FISH. These experiments will address if the CENP-A domain remains constant in organization, placement, and size throughout the cell cycle and how new and old CENP-A are distributed during replication.
When not in the lab I enjoy ballet, tennis, and of course, snuggling up with my hedgehog, Pickles.
