Madhuvanthi Vijayan, PhD
Research Interest: Anti-viral innate immunity, RNA virus-host interactions.
I completed my PhD in the University of Missouri – Columbia under the mentorship of Dr. Bumsuk Hahm. My dissertation work was focused on characterizing the role of sphingosine-1 phosphate metabolizing enzymes in host defense to negative strand RNA virus infections such as influenza and measles.
In July 2017, I joined the lab of Dr. Stacy Horner for my post-doctoral research. At Duke, I will be studying the molecular mechanisms behind how positive strand RNA viruses such as HCV activate and evade host innate immunity, particularly the type I Interferon response.
Personal Interests: Outside of the lab I enjoy watching TV-shows, listening to music, travelling, cooking Indian food and exploring different type of cuisines.
