Research Interest:

I am Taeyup Kim, a post-graduate student, class of 2016. I am a pre-medical student and biology major. I began working with Dr. Young-sun Bahn since May of 2014. Cryptococcus neoformans, our primary target of interest among  many Cryptococcus pathogenic species, is the most prominent medically significant species. It causes a severe form of meningo-encephalitis in people with HIV. We are conducting drug efficacy tests with our model organism galleria mellonella, and CD-1 mice. Also by constructing target mutants on transcription factors and kinase, we are analyzing phenotypic traits of these organisms on in vitro and in vivo conditions.  These approaches are relevant to gaining more comprehensive insight into the functional genomics of kinase and transcription factors on genome level in signal transduction pathway of Cryptococcus neoformans.
