Walton Receives 2006 ASM Undergraduate Research Fellowship (URF)

Durham, N.C. (May 2005) – Felicia Walton, an undergraduate student in the Department of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology at the Duke University Medical Center, has been awarded ASM's Undergraduate Research Fellowship (URF) for the 2005-2006 academic year.

The ASM Undergraduate Research Fellowship (URF) is aimed at highly competitive students who wish to pursue graduate careers (Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D.) in microbiology. In this program, students will have the opportunity to conduct full-time research at their home institutions with an ASM member and present research results at the ASM General Meeting the following year.

In addition to presenting a poster of her research at this year's upcoming meeting, Walton was also selected to give an oral presentation of her work. Walton's research project for the program will be completed with her mentor, Joseph Heitman, M.D., Ph.D.
