Heitman and Perfect Elected to Fellowship in the American Academy of Microbiology

April 2004 — Joseph Heitman, MD, PhD, professor in the departments of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology, Pharmacology and Cancer Biology, and Medicine at Duke University Medical Center, associate investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, and director of the Duke Center for Microbial Pathogenesis and the Duke University Program in Genetics and Genomics and John Perfect, MD, professor in the department of Medicine, division of Infectious Diseases and director of the Duke University Mycology Research Unit have been elected to Fellowship in the American Academy of Microbiology.

An honorific leadership group, the American Academy of Microbiology recognizes excellence, originality, and creativity in all subspecialties of the microbiological sciences. Heitman and Perfect will be recognized for this distinction at the Academy Fellows Luncheon Meeting at the 104th ASM General Meeting in New Orleans, LA, on Wednesday, May 26, 2004.
