Alexander Selected as 2008 IDSA Fellow
Durham, N.C. (August 2008) -- Barbara Alexander, MD, Assistant Professor of Medicine, Director of Transplant Infectious Disease Services, and Head of the Clinical Mycology Laboratory at Duke University Medical Center, and William Steinbach, MD, Assistant Professor of Pediatrics, Infectious Diseases and Assistant Professor of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology have been selected as 2008 Fellows of the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA).
The Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA), the nation’s leading professional society in infectious diseases, has honored 85 distinguished physicians and scientists from the United States and abroad who were elected this year to be fellows of IDSA.
Fellowship in IDSA honors individuals who have achieved professional excellence and provided significant service to the profession. “Fellows are recognized by their peers as leaders in the field of infectious diseases, either nationally or locally, in their communities and in their hospitals,” said IDSA President Donald Poretz, MD, FIDSA. “It is our way of distinguishing the top people in our field.”
Applicants for IDSA fellowship must be nominated by their peers, reviewed and elected by the IDSA Board of Directors, and must meet specified criteria, including continuing identification with the field of infectious diseases, national or local recognition, and publication of their work. Fellows of IDSA work in clinical practice, academia, as research investigators, and administrators.
Alexander and Steinbach will be recognized during the 48th Annual ICAAC/IDSA 46th Annual Meeting, October 25-28, 2008 in Washington D.C.
