Julie Yang

I am currently an undergraduate student at Duke in the Trinity Arts and Sciences program and will be graduating in Spring 2009 with a major in public policy (concentrating in health policy) and a minor in French/Romance languages. I started my work in Dr. Heitman's lab under the mentorship and guidance of Jen Reedy in the fall of 2006. The focus of my research involved examining the effects of knocking out the hom6 gene, or the gene that is responsible for homoserine dehydrogenase, which is an enzyme that catalyzes the third step in the pathway for methionine and threonine biosynthesis in fungus. Current techniques include PCR analysis and usage of the SAT cassette to flip out genes.
