At Duke, I was a student in the Medical Scientist Training Program (M.S.T.P.) and finished graduate school in the Department of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology. Prior to coming to Duke, I attended Cornell University, where I graduated with a B.S. in Genetics and Development in 2000. In the Heitman lab, my work focused on the human pathogen Candida albicans. Previous work from the lab showed that the protein calcineurin is necessary for the survival of C. albicans in serum. I explored this interaction further, and I worked to elucidate other members of the calcineurin signaling cascade, particularly those that are involved in serum sensitivity.
