Baldeep Singh Pabla Undergraduate Student

I am an undergraduate here at Duke and will be graduating in the spring of 2009 with a major in chemistry and a concentration in biochemistry. I started working in the Heitman lab in May of 2007 under the guidance of Dr. Priya Uppuluri. My research focused on the study of the pathogenic fungi Candida albicans. We found that some potential antifungal drugs can induce filamentation in C. albicans under non-permissive conditions and in turn help form a robust biofilm. We were interested in discovering the genetic targets of these antifungals and eventually identifying their mechanism of action.
