I am currently an undergraduate student in Trinity College in the class of 2011. I am pursuing a double major in biology and chemistry or math. I began my work in the spring of 2008 under the supervision of Dr. Soo Chan Lee, and my research project focuses on the mating type locus of mucor.

Previous studies of phycomyces have shown that there are two mating type loci (sexM and sexP) that are responsible for sexual behavior in phycomyces. We are interested in investigating whether synteny is preserved from phycomyces to mucor, specifically, whether mucor also share comparable sexM and sexP loci. We will also look at the sexual development of mucor.
