Lukasz Kozubowski

I received my doctoral training at Louisiana State University Medical Center, where I worked under the supervision of Dr. Kelly Tatchell. I studied how septin-associated proteins facilitate deposition of chitin at the mother-bud neck in S. cerevisiae. I was also investigating the basis for the asymmetry across the septin collar at the bud neck. After completing my PhD, I came to Danny Lew's lab at Duke to work on the Bem1-Cdc24-Cdc42-PAK protein complex, which is responsible for organizing actin cables at presumptive bud site in yeast. Recently, I decided to leave baker's yeast and address some of the polarity/morphology-related questions using other (morphologically more mysterious?) fungi. One of the things that I would like to study in the Heitman lab is the regulation of the morphology and polarity in the basidia of C. neoformans.
