Ting Zhou

I am originally from Guangzhou, China, a city famous for its delicious Cantonese food. In 2010, I finished my undergraduate study in biological sciences at Sun Yat-sen University and came to Durham with my fiancť to start our graduate studies at Duke University. During college, I spent two years in the labs of Dr. Yue-qin Chen and Dr. Zhao-rong Lun, studying oncogenic miRNAs and transcription factors in pediatric leukemia as well as Trypanosoma brucei in diabetic rats.

I finished my first rotation project in Dr. Matsunami's lab, working on deorphanization of human odorant receptors and how genetic variants of these receptors contribute to differences in human odorant perception. I joined the Matsunami Lab in May 2011. In addition to odorant receptors, my current work involves chemosensation in the mammalian carotid body.

Outside of lab, I enjoy watching good movies and pretending to know how to cook.
