Durham, N.C. 27710
I hail from the mile high city of Denver!
I've been an aspiring scientist since I was ~7 years old.
Ever since I was exposed to the "mad geneticist" trope when I was a kid, I've been hooked.
I left my home in Colorado to attend the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in 2008, and I graduated in 2011 with my bachelors of science in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology.
After I graduated, I worked for ~1.5 years at the University of Colorado at the Anschutz medical campus. I participated in a microbiome project looking at the role of bacteria in inflammation in the upper GI, particularly in chronic inflammatory diseases like Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EoE).
My research interests are very wide. I am very interested in gene regulation, and how molecular pathways in animals can be disrupted, enhanced, or otherwise altered. This includes virology, physiology, biochemistry, etc. As of now, I am still looking for my niche.
Outside of lab, I enjoy playing video games, reading fantasy/sci-fi novels, hiking, snowboarding, writing, drawing comics and trying to learn programming languages.
