Research Interests

Studies have shown that binding of the 5' end of the hepatitis C virus (HCV) genome with micro-RNA122 (mir-122) significantly enhances viral replication. My independent study research project is attempting to determine whether the positive functionality of mir-122 is dependent upon the presence of specific argonaute proteins (1, 2, 3, and/or 4). I am also working to characterize proteins found to bind the 5' end of HCV RNA in a recent proteomic screen. We hope to identify host RNA-binding proteins that function in replication of HCV.
