Research Interests

I hope to determine the mechanism(s) by which host genes contribute to the yellow fever viral lifecycle which will broaden our understanding of the basic biology supporting viral infection. I am applying RNA-guided endonuclease (RGEN) technology towards validation of host genes previously identified by RNA interference-based genome wide screening. RGENs cause mutations at the target site within the genome permitting creation of gene knockout cell lines. Importantly, the knockout of multiple genes in the same cell line permits the identification of novel genetic interactions between genes of interest which could not be identified efficiently by traditional assay designs.
