I received my BSc in Applied Biology from Kyoto Institute of Technology in Kyoto, Japan. Next, I moved to the Department of Immunology at Nagoya University to study the molecular mechanisms responsible for the suppressive function of regulatory T cells. My work led to the discovery of a population of human regulatory CD8+ T cells (CD8+ CXCR3+ T cells) that we believe are the counterparts of murine CD8+CD122+ regulatory T cells. In June 2010, I joined the Coers lab. My current research is focused on understanding chronic infections with the human pathogen C. trachomatis. Towards this goal, we are building a humanized mouse model of chronic C. trachomatis infections. Additionally, I am studying cell-autonomous immune responses to vacuolar pathogens like Chlamydia and Legionella. In my spare time, I enjoy gardening, planting flowers and vegetables, and raising chickens.
